Bajaj Hindusthan is making a strategic diversification move by expanding its power generation capacity, this time into merchant power, as well as making a foray into coal mining through its Indonesian subsidiary. BHL through its SPV, Bajaj Energy Limited has setup new coal based power generation plants of 90 MW each in the vicinity of 5 of its existing sugar units. The five new coal plants under Bajaj Energy were commissioned early 2012.

Lalitpur Power Generation Company Ltd, an SPV, has made a foray in developing a super critical thermal power project in UP which will produce around 1,980 megawatts (3x660) of power, ready for commissioning by end of 2014.
